Shadow into Light

Winner of several awards for his work on glass and paper at the Salon National des Beaux Arts (2022 & 2023), Alexandre Lequœur began by etching and drawing before focusing his pictorial research on form, shadow and reflection.

Tackling themes of elusiveness, paradox and threshold spaces, he gradually came to explore the idea of painting by subtracting matter, favouring the use of blades rather than brushes.

On the glass surface of his installation-paintings, lines and geometric patterns become vectors of a shifting darkness, reacting to changes in perspective as much as to fluctuations in light.

In this way, the isolated forms, separated from the background, reveal the Shadow as the nearest distant to be explored.

Alexandre Lequœur
